Daily Supported Reading (DSR) is designed to support reading in KS1 and low readers in KS2. It is mainly used for whole class teaching, but also has proven success in small groups or for 1:1 intervention.

The programme is beneficial for both children and adults.

Benefits for children

For children, DSR provides a consistent approach to reading so they become independently motivated and fluent readers. They:

  • read stories on their own right from the start
  • learn to respond to and engage with new ideas and information (cultural capital)
  • are taught how to access information with increasing autonomy
  • learn to problem solve independently while keeping a story or message in mind (global comprehension)

Benefits for adults

For adults, DSR develops their skills so they can confidently meet the needs of children and ensure that no child gets left behind. They use differentiated lesson guides to move children on, at the right time.

Why DSR?

Our DSR method has a proven track record of success in raising school reading standards at KS1. It is used in addition to a school’s phonics programme.

If you want a systematic and successful programme and highly motivated staff to help the children in your school to excel in their reading, then DSR is for you.
