Destination Reader is a pedagogical approach to teaching reading at KS2 through daily engaging, structured sessions that support children to read with greater understanding, enjoyment and purpose.

As an approach to reading rather than a scheme, Destination Reader complements your individual school's curriculum and selection of high quality texts.

What's included?

Destination Reader training covers:

  • building a whole school reading ethos
  • progression and assessment of reading strategies
  • interactive lessons with clear modelling and discussion to develop comprehension
  • learning behaviours to ensure supportive and purposeful partner talk
  • teaching and modelling of written comprehension strategies to build active readers who can interpret questions

You receive:

  • two days of core leadership training (three delegates per school)
  • a handbook of resources

  • implementation support

Destination Reader schools are further supported through an annual subscription which ensures access to termly forums for sharing practice, updated materials and curriculum resources.

What our customers think

"Our schools love Destination Reader and are so enthusiastic about putting it into practice and the impact it is having. Hackney Education is great to work with, so organised and thorough, yet supportive and understanding of each individual school's contexts and needs. The in-depth training and on-going support mean that schools are really aided in their implementation. I cannot recommend Hackney Education and their work highly enough."
Debbie Anderson, Portsmouth City Council

"We all left the training sessions feeling incredibly inspired and bursting with new ideas for teaching and, most importantly, fostering a school-wide love of reading. The team was so knowledgeable and really committed to providing the highest quality of training."
Attendee at DR Conference, China

Why you should choose us

Feedback from schools currently using Destination Reader has shown dramatic improvement in the quality and consistency of reading lessons at KS2.

Teachers have improved confidence and subject knowledge and their better understanding of progression across KS2 leads to higher expectations and levels of challenge. Children read with greater understanding, independence and, above all, enjoy reading more.
