Overview

Hackney’s approach to curriculum diversity is a core component of its commitment to being an anti-racist borough.

The Hackney Diverse Curriculum is designed to help schools and settings cultivate a rich and inclusive learning environment. We work to ensure that educational content reflects the multicultural population and addresses systemic inequalities.

Initially developed by Hackney teachers and staff for all Hackney educational settings, it soon became clear that there was a much wider appetite for the resources, with requests from across the UK and internationally.

Please note, we are a not-for-profit service and the small fee for the resources will be used to create additional documents. This is a one-off payment, which gives you access to the current resources and any future additions.

What's included?

Hackney’s Diverse Curriculum is a suite of planning materials, teaching resources and staff training to support educators.

You will have access to a range of documents including:

  • The Black Contribution resources, designed to teach Black history and demonstrate the contributions that Black people have made to the UK. They include lesson plans and resources on topics such as:
    • The Windrush Generation
    • British Identity
    • Activism
    • Diversity in Science
    • History: Believe/Achieve
    • Humanities and Literacy: Untold Stories
  • Decolonising and diversifying curricula - staff training materials to increase understanding of decolonising and diversifying and practical strategies to implement
  • Curated lists of credible and UK-prioritised resources to support settings in diversifying and decolonising the curriculum and being anti-racist educators

You will be provided with login details to access the resources.
