Overview

This 10-week termly project provides a brief history and cultural background to carnival music through a practical hands-on approach. Working with a maximum of 30 participants, sessions will include movement, body rhythms and, where school facilities allow, audio and visual examples.

Using Bateria instruments, styles covered will include one or two of the following: Samba, Samba Reggae (Brazil); Conga de Comparsa (Cuba); Candombe (Uruguay); Fe’ (Guinea); or London Urban beats and other fusions.

One hour per group is provided over a 10-week term, leading to a performance at the end of the residency. Open to all year groups in primary and secondary school

What's included?

  • Instruments and all necessary equipment (including ear defenders) are provided as part of the programme.
  • Whole class Carnival percussion and ensemble with differentiated parts for mixed ability groups.
  • Opportunity for group to perform at the end of the programme.

What our customers think

“Well done to all students and teachers involved. I know exactly how much goes into these events.”
