This 10-week termly project provides a brief history and cultural background to carnival music through a practical hands-on approach. Working with a maximum of 30 participants, sessions will include movement, body rhythms and, where school facilities allow, audio and visual examples.
Using Bateria instruments, styles covered will include one or two of the following: Samba, Samba Reggae (Brazil); Conga de Comparsa (Cuba); Candombe (Uruguay); Fe’ (Guinea); or London Urban beats and other fusions.
One hour per group is provided over a 10-week term, leading to a performance at the end of the residency.
Instruments are provided as part of the programme.
