Parent and carer engagement

Improving achievement for all children

Parent and carer engagement is the most changeable factor in a child’s achievement. By improving engagement, schools can improve attainment, progress, attendance, behaviour, wellbeing and aspirations.

Parent and carer engagement toolkit

We have developed a toolkit to support schools and settings. Headteachers and senior leaders can use this to review their own approach to engagement.

The toolkit takes you through various steps including:

  • Audit and data gathering
  • Identifying priorities
  • Implementing your plan

Case studies

We recognise the excellent practice Hackney schools have around effective parental engagement. This has been externally recognised by two of our schools being awarded the Leading Parent Partnerships Award. It has also been celebrated through our 'Empowering Parent, Raising Achievement' Summit, where schools and educational settings across Hackney came together to share best practice and learn from each other.

We are delighted to be able to share some of this practice through these case studies.
