Information for applicants

What evidence do I need to verify my identity?

The documents you need to provide to verify your identity will depend on your nationality and how long you have resided in the UK. For details of the verification process and list of valid identity documents see:

There is also guidance on the DBS website

Can I track my application?

Once you have submitted your application and had your identity verified you will receive an email confirming that your application has been successfully received by the DBS. After that you can track your application online using the Government DBS Tracking Service.

All you need is the DBS form reference and your date of birth.

For how long is a DBS Disclosure valid?

It is Hackney Education policy that all staff who require a DBS Disclosure must be rechecked on a 3-yearly basis. Other organisations will have their own internal policies - please speak to your HR Team.

What if I lived overseas?

Safeguarding guidance and recent Ofsted inspections have highlighted the requirement to obtain criminal record checks on employees who have lived overseas.

When you complete the online form the systems looks at your address history and emails you if you have to provide additional checks, such as a Certificate of Good Conduct.

How long will the DBS process take?

Our online DBS checking service is faster than applying on the paper form. However, the speed of the check will depend on the police forces involved in checking your application.
